I’ll be honest… I don’t have much on this game, so I’ll give more of an update on the trip as a whole and a peak fo
They only played one half of basketball and the majority of scoring came from the bench guys.
Most of my game notes are of the bench guys as well.
Michigan beats AO Mykonou BC, 49-38, but only plays one half.
Will Tschetter led the team in scoring with nine points. Followed up by Dug McDaniel and Isaiah Barnes, who both finished with seven points.
The starters quite honestly, weren’t asked to do much. The trip was long and hard on everyone, especially with the heat and lack of air conditioning in the gyms.
As for player notes, the only excerpt I got came from inside the program. It was about Dug McDaniel…
McDaniel had seven points and played with great pace. I expect a really solid freshman season for McDaniel.

Overall, this overseas exhibition trip was extremely valuable for the staff, players, and future recruits. It rewarded the staff and players while also highlighting what you could get at Michigan, for recruits.
As for the team, I think this trip really showed the staff what they need to work on and really put a spotlight on some of the teams biggest concerns. Simple things like free throw shooting and conditioning, but also deeper issues like what to do at the guard spots.
It would have been great if Youssef Khayat and Joey Baker would have been able to play, as both players should serve as viable players next season.
However, it gave Michigan a great opportunity to scout what they have in potential starters in Jaelin Llewellyn, Kobe Bufkin, and Terrance Williams II. Along with the ability to find role players like the aforementioned-McDaniel, Isaiah Barnes, and Tarris Reed.

The biggest concern I have following the overseas trip is what Michigan has…or doesn’t have… at SG for next season. Kobe Bufkin needs to be that guy, but unfortunately he only had single-digit points over the course of 2.5 games. Don’t take this as me saying he won’t be that guy, because he absolutely can, and everyone still thinks he can be.
So where does Michigan go from here?
Personally, I think you look at 5’11 Freshman PG, Dug McDaniel.
Coming away from the trip, my personal biggest takeaway is just how ready McDaniel appears to be. Will there be some growing pains? Yes, absolutely. But can McDaniel provide quality minutes for the Wolverines as a freshman? No question, and he might not have a choice.
Through three games, McDaniel provided QUALITY minutes off the bench, somewhere between 16-20 minutes in the two full games played. He shot well from the field, played good defense, and had command of the offense. The one flaw is his turnover %, which is something he needs to get under control.
My take:
Hunter Dickinson is going to be elite this year. Going to be unstoppable, nearing 20ppg and 10rpg.
Jaelin Llewellyn is the best PG so far in the Juwan-era. He is uber-talented (top-100 out of high school) and will be a big part of this team.
Terrance Williams II will be consistent for Michigan, doing a lot of things at a high level, but perhaps nothing at an elite level. You take that guy on your team 10 times out of 10. Williams is a big piece for Michigan and will play a major role (25+ mins).
Jett Howard is going to be a pure scorer. He himself could give the score keeper a job. I wouldn’t expect many assists and/or rebounds per game. I think a Malaki Branham-esque season, is in play here, and think Howard could be a potential B1G Freshman of the Year.
As for guys like Isaiah Barnes, Tarris Reed Jr, Dug McDaniel, Joey Baker, and Youssef Khayat will fight for each minute they can get. There is going to be some real pressure on guys like Kobe Bufkin, Jett Howard, and Terrance Williams II to perform, because there are talented players right on their heels.
This Michigan team is deep with lots of options at the two, three, and four. Lots of flexibility in this roster. I will refrain from making any prediction on team success, as I want to see them in action first.
For now…stay tuned for more.
