They’ll probably get their asses kicked, but they’re laughing that Brian Kelly had more influence over where the semi-finals will be played than the Rose Bowl or playoff committees. With just Kelly’s threat that he’d refuse to permit Notre Dame to play if his players’ parents couldn’t attend, he got a semi-final game relocated.
Now it appears that even after getting humiliated against Clemson, they’ll still be in the playoffs. If Florida loses to ‘Bama, then Texas A&M’s “best” win would be against a three-loss Florida. Their chances are worse if Florida beats ‘Bama, but still not bad enough to keep them out of the playoffs.
Either way, the “final four” look like Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame. What could be interesting is how much influence the movement of the game between 1-4 (Alabama vs ??) to Texas might have on the choice of the fourth team.
I’d love it if the Committee chose one-loss Texas A&M instead of one-loss Notre Dame to play in the semi relocated from the Rose Bowl to the Cowboys stadium in Arlington TX. Both team’s losses were “bad losses” — TAM by 28 to Alabama and ND by 24 to Clemson. But ND did have the prime-time OT win against Clemson.
I’d love it if the Committee paired Alabama vs Texas A&M. Kelly would have possibly outsmarted himself bigtime.
