Let me preface this by saying I realize the kid is a sophomore, but I am extremely confused by his career so far, and how he’s been used in general. Early in the season we saw some end arounds to him, and use in motion. As the season went on, what we expected to be an increasing package of plays featuring him on the offensive side of the ball completely disappeared. I thought perhaps it was being saved for bigger games, but not a single touch in any of our final 5 weeks (outside of kick return).

To me, what makes this even more puzzling is the fact he didn’t really play much on defense (so it’s not like he was a concern for fatigue) and the Ronnie Bell end around was a perpetual mess. With ambry on the roster, and not really playing, why not more involvement on offense? How could he not have supplanted bell in at least that formation? Amazingly, the Bell end around actually went for negative yards more often than positive.

On defense, again, puzzling. As Osu gashed us, primarily in the slot with Campbell, I assumed if there was ever a time to see Ambry, that was it. And yet he again played sparingly, and held when he was on the field repeatedly.

Is it just me, or has the kid been a total mess in coverage? Tons of penalties, blown assignments, even in the massacre of our secondary in Columbus the coaches were extremely hesitant to play him. What he does have, clearly, is elite speed and is good with the ball in his hands, id say he’s our best kick returner outside of Peppers of the JH/Hoke eras. So why not just move him? He’s over 6 foot, supposedly the fastest player on the team, and didn’t drop a kickoff all year nor fumble. He’s been very rough on defense, especially in man coverage, and has been essentially not used at all while possessing elite physical traits, speed which our offense needs.

I say make him a WR full time, preferably in the slot. Am I crazy?
