In a word, recruiting! The more success msu has in football and basketball the more difficult it will be to recruit against them. Sure, Michigan will get it's fair share of talent but a lot of Michiganders are growing up seeing msu win and win a lot. Osu winning the National title may have been good bragging rights for the Big Ten but it did Michigan no good. The last 7 years have done unmeasurable damage to the Michigan legacy in football. I can't wait for the universe to be normal again and for Michigan be the Michigan we grew up rooting for. I know brighter days are ahead for both football and basketball.
