Long, long time observer here. Used to post under a different name a bit. Born in AA, graduated (undergrad) 2003, now physician in NYC. Thought for my first post for this account, I would give us all a chance to dream!
Basing on AP poll today but top 15 in AP are relevant in terms of playoff rankings in this plan.
1) We win out and beat #2 OSU by 10 or so and look great. They will still be ahead of us and as you see below will get a spot.
2) OSU beats #9 Penn state knocking them behind us for sure. #11 Minnesota beats #14 Wisconsin knocking badgers way behind us and their third loss. OSU then beats Minnesota in big ten title knocking them behind us.
3) Clemson wins out they get a spot.
4) Auburn (3 losses not a threat) beats Tua-less #5 Alabama knocking them behind us. #1 LSU beats #4 Georgia in SEC title game knocking them behind us as we beat the common opponent Notre Dame much more handily. LSU gets a spot.
5) #13 Baylor loses to Texas dropping them way out. But then they beat #8 Oklahoma in Big 12 title game knocking Sooners behind us.
6) This is the most challenging. #7 Utah loses to Arizona or Colorado knocking them behind us sending USC to that side of Pac 12 championship game. Unranked 4-loss USC then beats #6 Oregon is championship game sending them behind us.
7) Only team left is #10 Florida 2 losses like us but our win over OSU would have already vaulted us ahead easily.
Final Playoff Rankings:
#1 LSU
#2 Clemson
#3 OSU
#4 will be a battle between several teams (Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Florida and Baylor). I think that will be #s 4-8 regardless.
#9 Oregon (just got embarrassed by losing to USC)
#10 Oklahoma (just lost to Baylor)
#11 Minnesota (just got embarrassed by probably getting blown out by OSU)
#12 Auburn (highest 3 loss team)
#13/14 Notre Dame and Penn State in some order
The battle would be between 3 SEC non-champs (so many arguments between them there), one champion (Baylor, who by losing to Texas would have fallen way back to around 18-20 maybe) and us. We would have beaten what people thought may be the best team, then watch them wallop Minnesota who would have crept up again in the prior rankings. We also would have two top 14 wins by that point, and Iowa would be in teens too. Georgia would have best argument with the SEC teams, and we beat the common opponent by many more points.
#1 LSU versus #4 Michigan and #2 Clemson versus #3 OSU

Dream, because that is what is fun about rankings? Absolutely.
