No Jordan Reid. No Jacub Panasiuk. And their existing quarterback room.

Yes we will have 5 new OL starters. It could be worse. We could have the returning starters that MSU has.

MSU's OT, DE and QB looks like this

OT, Pick 2:
  • AJ Acrui (RS Sr, 3-Star). The great news: when healthy Acuri was an upgrade over Tyler Higby. The bad news, he isn't that much better and has a hard time staying healthy.
  • Devonte Dobbs (RS Fr, 6-Star). Dobbs was last year's monster signing (beating UM) and he got to play in the max 4 games. The bad news is that we got to see him play in those 4 games. He showed a concerning lack of athleticism and strength. Thank god Lewerke had wheels. He needed them with Dobbs playing. There are rumblings he has a Higby-level ceiling.
  • Spencer Brown (RS-Fr, 4-Star). Brown got tons of hype as another recruiting win over Michigan. He never sniffed the field last year. That is never a good sign when the guys playing in front of you were injured, awful, were desperate for depth and your reps don't count against your eligibility.
  • Jordan Reid (Sr. 3-Star). Projects at center in the NFL. It seemed like just yesterday Reid signed with MSU. He has been undersized most of his career but is finally up over 300 lbs. He would be 3rd string at Michigan at RT. But he may be MSU's 2nd best lineman.
  • Mustafa Khaleefah (RS-JR, 3-Star). Played sparingly. Had practice hype early in his career but has yet to have that hit the field. If he stepped up his game, it would be a major boost to MSU's line depth this year.
  • James Ohonba (RS-Soph, 4-Star). Has gotten very few snaps in games. He may be a COVID victim in that another bad spring performance would have him through the Transfer Portal to greener pastures. He is showing the classic signs of being a bust.
DE, Pick 2
  1. Jacub Panasiuk Sr. 6-3, 245 - Is he little brother/side kick or can he step up? He no longer has 3 strong starters next to him.
  2. Michael Fletcher R-FR. 6-6 259 - 6 lifetime snaps. Had some recruiting DNA. Needs to take massive step up.They need him at starter and log big minutes
  3. Chase Kline R-So. 6-4 235 - Converted linebacker, rush guy. 12 tackles, 1 sack.
  4. Drew Beesley Sr. 6-2, 252 - Walk-on. 5th year senior. May have to play meaningful snaps.
  5. Zach Slade, R-So. 6-4, 260 - ACL in spring 2019 coupled with no experience.
  6. Jack Camper R-JR. 6-4, 258 - ACL 2019. Came back a few times late in games. Looked bad.
  7. DeAri Todd R-JR. 6-2, 276 - Just a guy taking up roster space. Not expected to contribute
Pick 1

Anointed starter: SR, Rocky Lombardi: 3-star, 5.6. Key offers: Iowa, Iowa St. and Miami (of Ohio)

  • Comments:
Inspires fear in all defensive coordinators like no other quarterback on their roster. Lifetime stats: 75/175 (41%) for 812 yds (4.6 y/a). QBR 81.2
If this is the guy that leads the team, their ceiling is 5 wins. And that includes victories over Toledo, Rutgers and @maryland. I am not sure I see 2 more wins. He has proven that he has a MAC arm, at best. He is the poster child for needing to look deeper into the quarterback room. And he bears a disturbing resemblance to Rolf from the Sound of Music. But I am dating myself.

    Onward.
Theo Day: JR, 3-star, 5.7. Key offers: Kentucky, BC, Toledo.

  • Comments:
Had few opportunities, even with an injured Lewerke and Rolf Lombardi ahead of him on the depth chart. Lifetime stats 2/3 for 12 yards, (4 y/a), QBR 100.3

How do you not give a guy a chance to play when Rocky Lombardi clearly can't play? Theo got some snaps on exactly one one drive last year when Lombardi and Lewerke was hurt. He got pulled for calling the wrong play, was subbed for and never saw the field again. If he is the future, they didn't help their cause.
Payton Thorne: Soph, 3-star, 5.5. Last second signee after whiffing on all Plan A, B, C, D and others. Key offers: NC State and no other P5 offers.

  • Comments:
Never played a snap. Last second signee by Dantoni as he had no other committable offers from P5 programs. It must have been hard for Dantoni to recruit into a loaded depth chart.
Noah Kim: Incoming freshman. 3-star 5.6. Key offers: Virginia Tech. No other P5 offers.

  • Comments:
Last minute commit by Dantonio. That was the 2nd year in a row they whiffed on their Plan A, B, C and D recruits. Noah had to decommit from Va Tech (rumor is that was no longer committable) to latch on to MSU. It must have been hard for Dantoni to recruit into a loaded depth chart.

Thank god we have football again. I cannot wait to see these guys take the field!
