I read this column about conference realignment and wanted to share. It argues that TV and apparel money are going to lead to a lot more consolidation with 64 teams left playing in 4 power conferences and the current Group of 5 conferences will be in a separate FBS subdivision (like FCS). Also says that some current G5 programs will move up - maybe Memphis, Cincinnati, Fresno State - based on the size of the TV markets they play in. Obviously that means some schools are going to be moving to lesser conferences, including maybe Purdue to the MAC. Interesting offseason read at the least, and a lot of it makes sense.

To me this has always been the eventuality as well as making the most sense. There will be complaints by those who will be left out of the top Division, because they'll be out of the money. There will those who want to maintain the traditions of college football, but money always wins out.
