I see so many HC hiring blunders lately that it still baffles as to what goes on behind the scenes. Michigan made one in 2011 when we hired Hoke who had a very unimpressive resume and was given a Top 5 job in the nation. Well, now BYU goes and hires a dude who's D was 116th in the nation last year? I know his faith and the fact that he's a BYU alum has a lot to do with it but that makes no sense to me at all. Why would you do that? BYU is not a crappy job - I would argue it's a Top 50 job in the county and you hand it one of the worst D-coordinators last year? Another one that had me scratching my head was Riley's hiring last year by Nebraska - I don't think he's a good coach at all - wins a couple big games but no consistency at all.

Among his peers Riley is considered one of the very best. He would have led USC but the Chargers wouldn't let him out of the contract. I think Riley realized that at Oregon St. everything was an uphill battle especially with Oregon getting so very good. He's a quality hire. After saying that it's a head scratcher to go Pro style after running an option offense. Neb. did that earlier with Callahan with not too good results.

Did you notice that Bo Pellini (sic) had no offers for larger programs?
