This past season, Spielman said that Michigan has become a "program of almosts." Maybe it was the season prior, anyway..
He mentioned almost beating South Carolina, almost beating Ohio State, almost getting many big time recruits, although he did not mention names. He mentioned Hoke losing so many close games in his second year.
I think this is unfortunately true. However, we now have the perfect guy to get us over that hump. Those almosts on the field will become wins. I do not expect to lose to Rutgers and Maryland, or to get blasted by Utah and Minnesota. Having the Buckeyes on the ropes needing a two point conversion, Harbaugh and Drevno get one more blocker on a designed power play that gets our RB into the end zone for that 2 points. A Zordich Jackson secondary doesn't let Gary Nova throw for 404 or South Carolina to get behind our DBs for a last minute long TD pass.
Once those wins occur, in combination with a win over a rival, that is when the major recruits will follow. This is their future, so I understand why they may wait for the results on the field.
Spielman is a good analyst, and he was spot on, but the comment will become temporary and no longer applicable to a program led by Harbaugh.
We are in recruits' top fives/tens and such, but JH starting off on a good year will bring them over to our side like great players of the past flocked to UM. I feel this "almost" label, will become a thing in our past, and I cannot wait for Utah and the future with Harbaugh!
