I feel that he gets scrutinized a bit more because of JJ behind him and because he's not pretty, just gets the job done. When you do throw around 30 passes against a good defense on the road, a few passes will be off, no matter who you are. In Cade's case, some throws that were slightly off have be called bad throws, but truthfully are balls that need to be caught. And some of it is the QB and receiver reading things differently, e.g. the throw to Baldwin where he kept running instead of settling into the soft spots of the zone. It was still catchable, but it's on the money if Baldwin stops his route. Who's at fault? I'm gonna say Baldwin. First pass of the game was open, Cade threw a good ball, dropped.

So far this season, Cade has missed in the right spots when he's missed, i.e. where the defenders can't get it. Kinda like a pitcher who misses outside instead of in the middle of the strike zone. In all, Cade throws very few balls that are not catchable, and he's thrown some excellent ones. Deep balls are just so refreshing. We haven't had a QB consistently hit those in a long time. But he also completes some short stuff that requires touch, e.g. the throw rolling left to Wilson, who was moving away from him, on a critical third down. Klatt highlighted it.

We also saw yesterday what happens when receivers make a few tough, contested catches. Wilson stepped up big time, and then Johnson finally high pointed a couple. Those are mostly throws where Cade puts the ball where it needs to be and relies on the receiver to make the catch. Those are plays that a QB and receiver develop a feel for. Hopefully yesterday was a turning point.

Cade's biggest issue is that he's not a runner, too slow, and the RPO is handicapped a bit as a result. It was interesting that they brought JJ in in a few situations that called for RPO and showed his running ability. I like it better than thew wildcat, honestly. BTW, on his TD, JJ was going to be short but his teammates pushed him and the pile into the end zone.

Nebraska will be a bigger test than Wiscy, IMO. Better offense, mobile QB, and another really good D. Their fans will show up.
