I’m a strong believer in it. I was shocked that Sparty dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides. Young, inexperienced O-line, but lots of talent... shoulda been better against MSU. Hyped D-line couldn’t get to the QB and Don Brown’s defense spreads the line out to much to stuff the run while trying to make gaps for blitzers that aren’t getting home. DB’s are too inexperienced to have the D-line not making it harder for the QB.
I like the “direction” the offense is headed, with a lot of nice pieces like Corum, Jackson, Wilson, Henning, etc... but, we need the running game (especially run blocking) to help the passing game... and be able to hit some of those deep throws to keep the D honest. Had some nice slants and quick passes/screens, but nothing long or intermediate, so the defense stayed close.
I don’t wanna fire Harbaugh. There’s been some good things during his tenure that have made this “era” seem better than RichRod/Hoke. I honestly think, minus the National Championship, this has been very similar to the Carr era: sending kids to the league, but not able to win enough college games with NFL talent. We’re in another situation where Harbaugh has stuck with an assistant too long. I love Don Brown’s enthusiasm and his D was super exciting when no one was prepared for it, but now that the BIG knows what to expect teams adjust, but he and the Michigan staff don’t. Getting the most out of your players and adjusting to their strengths is what makes a great coach... not many chances left to adapt, but I hope they do.
