This is a question for the mods or for one of the bona fide insiders: What is the real story with Brandon Peters at quarterback? Is he really a bust, or is he on track to be a solid quarterback in a year or two?

There is a tendency on this board that if a highly-rated recruit isn't a starter or an All American by his sophomore year, then he is labeled a "bust" and a "has been" and a "miss." I find that mentality both ridiculous and uninformed. I remember when Dymonte Thomas was a sophomore and wasn't a starter and people here labeled him as a total bust, but now he's playing on Sundays. It is a rare player that can come into a college football team and be a contributor or a difference-maker as a freshman or sophomore, and too many kids get deemed as "busts" by impatient fans if these players are still on the bench at 19 or 20 years old.

Anyway, I have seen it written here that Brandon Peters is "fourth on the depth chart" or a "total bust," and I cannot tell if this sentiment is coming from people who have some actual inside information or if it is just the assumption from a group of impatient fans with unrealistic expectations who can't believe that this 19 year-old kid in his second year on campus didn't leapfrog over the returning starter -- a 22 year old redshirt junior who passed for 2,500 yards last year -- or his backup, a 23 year old 5th year senior who has previously started 15 games at another D-1 school and thrown for something like 3,000 yards in his career. Yeah, it would be great if Peters were the messianic quarterback that we want him to be and came in and surpassed both of these guys and rescued our offense as a redshirt freshman, but clearly he is not that (or he'd be starting now), but that in and of itself does not mean that he will never be a starter or has a limited upside.

Any meaningful information and insight would be appreciated.
