Here are tonight's Blue Chips:
*** Rivals100 West Bloomfield (Mich.) High running back Donovan Edwards has said he would like to make his visit and announce a commitment around the early signing period. However, Edwards told me a decision could come at any time. From talking to a couple of different people this weekend, I'm getting the sense that Edwards could pull the trigger sooner than expected. Edwards doesn't care for the recruiting process and tries to stay out of the limelight.
*** I've been somewhat cautious in my reporting of Edwards but from talks with sources over the last couple of weeks, this is the most confident I've felt in Michigan landing the elite ball carrier in quite some time. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, running backs coach Jay Harbaugh and the entire staff have invested a ton into this recruitment and have made him feel like part of the family. Edwards seems to be growing more and more comfortable with being a hometown hero, a phrase he used when I saw him a few weeks ago.
*** The commits have been working non-stop on Edwards as of late. The ringleader, of course, is quarterback pledge JJ McCarthy, who has pitched him on staying close to home and doing something special. The local commits like Giovanni El-Hadi and Raheem Anderson have also been actively recruiting Edwards. I know Edwards is close to them and loves the idea of teaming up with them at the next level.
*** Georgia still remains the biggest threat here, but no visits may help Michigan here. The longer this dead period goes, the more I feel like Georgia's chances are fading. Now, I'll never count out Georgia based on my past experiences, but I get the sense that Edwards is feeling more comfortable with Michigan. Schools like Penn State, Michigan State and Notre Dame are still involved, but I'm not worried as much about them. Oklahoma would be my dark horse, but I don't see him going there right now.
