*** Michigan recently extended an offer to two-star 2021 Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith athlete Maurice Freeman, who is committed to Indiana. There have been reports that Michigan likes him as a safety, but I've been told that this was a general linebacker offer. Freeman is 6-foot, 200 pounds and is only going to get bigger at the next level. With that said, Freeman does have experience playing safety and could fill multiple roles in Don Brown's scheme. So can Michigan flip him? Well, Freeman is not an early enrollee, so there could be an opportunity for him to visit Michigan before he signs. I'm told there is interest from him. Right now, Freeman and Michigan are in the relationship building stage.
*** Another linebacker Michigan could heavily target is Branden Jennings. The Rivals100 prospect from Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood backed out of his verbal pledge from Florida State today and is exploring other options. Jennings visited Michigan last fall and had a lot of interest in the Wolverines. With all of this said, Miami may be the team to beat. It's obviously closer to home, and he has a brother on the team. Jennings has actually been to several Miami games this fall. Landing him with the ongoing dead period will be difficult, but again, he's already been to Ann Arbor.
*** The corner board is continuing to shrink. I recently put in a FutureCast for Rivals100 Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola cornerback Ceyair Wright to land at USC, and I still feel very confident in my pick. Now, I feel like the Wolverines are completely out of it for Rivals250 Tuscaloosa (Ala.) American Christian cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who picked up a Michigan offer a couple of months ago. Auburn is the favorite with Clemson and Georgia high on his list as well. Lassiter is looking to make a decision before the end of the month, and it definitely won't be U-M.
