Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
*** Contact days are starting up around Chicago, and today, I spent some time at practice at Chicago (Ill.) Marist. I had the opportunity to get another look at elite 2023 wide receiver Carnell Tate, who I've been extremely high on for the last few months. Tate has really impressed me in workouts and 7v7s, so it was nice to be able to watch him move around in pads. Tate was his usual dominant self. At about 6-foot-3, Tate is a tall, outside wide receiver that can go up and get it. He was especially dangerous in the red zone. But what I really love about Tate is his catch radius and route running ability. He has a chance to easily be a Top 100 prospect nationally in his class.
*** Michigan recently extended an offer to Tate, and I feel like the Wolverines are high on his mind early on. Tate has a growing relationship with area recruiter Sherrone Moore and is from the same club 7v7 program that produced quarterback commit JJ McCarthy. Tate wants to make a visit to Michigan as soon as the dead period is over. Notre Dame is another school high on Tate's mind. The Irish recently offered as well, and he has a teammate committed there in 2021 offensive lineman Pat Coogan. Right now, I feel like Michigan and Notre Dame are the lead dogs, but an Ohio State offer would definitely have his interest.
*** Michigan is closely evaluating three-star 2022 offensive lineman Deuce McGuire, who I mentioned a few nights ago. This was my first time seeing McGuire in a live setting. He has the look of an interior offensive line prospect. While he needs to shape up his body a bit, McGuire is a big kid with a nice frame and adequate strength. He has decent feet as well. I thought he looked good going through the ladder and through flexibility drills. You can also tell McGuire is a smart kid and high football IQ prospect. He's definitely a prospect that Michigan will continue to monitor moving forward.
*** A Michigan offer would mean a ton to McGuire. From talking to him and his father, Dan, I get the sense that U-M would immediately jump to the top of their list if a scholarship is extended. Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner has had multiple calls with McGuire and recently had a lengthy Zoom call with his parents. Right now, McGuire has offers from Arizona State, Cal, Kansas, Michigan State, Oregon, Tennessee and a handful of other major programs.
*** Quickly... I mentioned Chicago quarterback Kaden Cobb as a potential upside take for next cycle earlier this week. Marist's Dontrell Jackson wouldn't be a bad option either. Jackson is on the short side, but he throws a beautiful, is a gamer and happens to be friends with the aforementioned McCarthy. He camped at Michigan last year and is one to watch. Rising 2023 wide receiver Ryan Sims does not have any offers but is an intriguing kid that could rise. He's a name to file away.
