Here are tonight's Blue Chips...

*** Today was my first time seeing rising 2024 Saline (Mich.) High quarterback and recent Michigan offer CJ Carr in action. Carr actually came out to Chicago on Easter Sunday to work with top quarterback trainer Greg Holcomb, who trained and mentored Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy. Carr is obviously the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. However, this wasn't a courtesy offer. Carr is a legit talent that will continue to rack up offers on the recruiting trail as he gets older. He's right at about 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him add an inch or two. He has the frame to keep adding some good weight as well. Overall, Carr has the look of a promising young prospect under center.

*** Carr didn't have the best receivers to throw to today, so timing was a bit of an issue. However, Carr had a really impressive day and was the clear standout from Sunday's group session. Carr has some really impressive arm talent for his age. I thought his best throws were deep balls, especially corners. His ball placement is fantastic, and his throws have a lot of velocity. Every ball also looked like it was coming out of a machine. He has a really nice, tight spiral, and the ball never flutters. While he missed a couple of targets on short-intermediate routes, Carr's passes all looked the same. He has above average mechanics and a deep understanding of the position, which is no surprise considering his blood lines. I was also impressed with Carr's mobility. He's more athletic than anticipated and made some really good off platform throws.

*** The biggest thing for Carr moving forward will be consistency. Even when talking to Holcomb after the camp, that was the first thing he said he wanted to keep working on with Carr moving forward. Like I said, his deep balls were pretty much all on point. It was the short-intermediate routes where Carr can continue to be better. Carr is very accurate, but he just let's some balls get away from him. That's obviously expected of a kid so young and one that wasn't a full-time starter last year. Once he finds his groove and really finds his game, Carr has a chance to be a highly touted prospect. I think fellow 2024 in-state quarterback Isaiah Marshall is a great talent, but based on what I've seen, I like Carr a little more. It will be interesting to see how they continue to develop.

*** The intangibles with Carr are there. Despite not being from Chicago, Carr had no problem fitting right in with the other guys at the session. He picked guys up when they made bad throws, took blame even when it was unwarranted and paid super close attention to what Holcomb was trying to teach him. The session also featured some younger kids, and Carr was the first one high fiving them and cheering them on. Carr also appears to come from a great family. I spent some time chatting with his parents after the event, and they seemed like great people.

*** And yes, Carr bleeds maize and blue. During the session, the wide receivers coach came over and told Carr to commit to Ohio State if he landed an offer from the Buckeyes because he was a huge fan. Carr laughed and responded: 'well, I'm a huge Michigan fan.' Carr reiterated to me in our interview that he grew up a fan of the Wolverines and was thrilled when the scholarship came his way. Both of his parents also love Michigan and are big fans of the program. Obviously, Michigan should have the inside track on his recruitment when his time comes.
