Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
*** Michigan made the Top 10 for five-star 2022 Cordova (Tenn.) St. Benedict defensive tackle Walter Nolen today. This isn't just a courtesy inclusion on a big list. Michigan is a legitimate threat to land Nolen. As I reported last week, there is optimism around Michigan that they can pull the surprise and land him. Nolen has been very impressed with the job Michigan is doing recruiting in the state of Tennessee and is already being courted by new commits Kody Jones and Taylor Groves. Both Co-DC Maurice Linguist and wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy have ties to the south and have been involved in this recruitment. Yes, the traditional SEC powers will be tough to beat here, but Michigan is very much in the Walter Nolen sweepstakes.
*** Michigan made the final three for2022 Rivals250 Traverse City (Mich.) Central linebacker Joshua Burnaham. Notre Dame and Wisconsin were the other two schools that made the cut. I've had my FutureCast pick on Michigan for almost a year and have no reason to change it. Burnham has been super high on Michigan since the first day I talked to him, and the new staff has made him a top priority for this cycle. Burnham is clicking well with new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald and company and wants to get back to Ann Arbor for a self-guided tour. Notre Dame is making a surge, and Wisconsin has recruited him hard since the beginning, but I still feel like Michigan is in the lead here.
*** Michigan also made the Top 10 for four-star 2022 Marietta (Ga.) Walton cornerback Marcus Allen. Michigan recently offered Allen, so it's definitely a positive sign that the Wolverines have quickly made themselves a player in this recruitment. Macdonald still has ties to the Peach State from his time at Georgia, and Linguist has already been a plus for Michigan recruiting in the south. Allen is high on SEC schools like Auburn and Georgia and just notched an offer from South Carolina, but he's definitely one to watch moving forward.
*** Now for some negative notes. I did some checking around, and Michigan is still not a top school for Rivals100 Westview (Tenn.) Martin quarterback Ty Simpson. I put in a FutureCast pick for Clemson. I cautioned you guys not to get very excited about Rivals100 Gardena (Calif.) Serra quarterback Maalik Murphy. I put in a pick for him to land at Texas and expect a quick turnaround there. I've logged a FutureCast pick for three-star Dearborn (Mich.) Fordson offensive lineman Kamarii Landers to land at Michigan State. The Spartans are making him a top priority, and it doesn't appear that U-M is pushing that hard. If the latter changes, things could get interesting.
