Here are tonight's Blue Chips...

*** Michigan is back in contact with the original 300-pound mammoth. U-M defensive line coach Shaun Nua and most of the defensive staff had a group call with four-star 2022 Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech defensive tackle Deone Walker this morning. I exchanged some messages with Walker tonight, and I still have reason to believe Michigan is in a good spot here despite the fact that it didn't seem like the Wolverines were pushing too hard. Obviously, Michigan has recruited well at Cass Tech, and Walker is right in their own backyard. Still, Walker has blown up as of late, earning new offers from schools like Florida, Georgia and LSU.

*** Four-star 2022 Indianapolis (Ind.) Brebeuf Jesuit defensive lineman Joe Strickland recently listed Michigan in his Top 10. Michigan was the early leader for Strickland before the staff appeared to cool on him a bit. This allowed Penn State to make a big run for Strickland. Now, I feel like the Nittany Lions are the team to beat. But that doesn't mean this recruitment is over. Nua and the new staff have been in regular contact with Strickland as of late and recently had a group Zoom call with him — that one included head coach Jim Harbaugh. Strickland took a self-guided tour of Michigan in the fall, and he's giving the Wolverines an opportunity to jump back out in front. Michigan is scheduled to have another Zoom with Strickland this weekend.

** *Michigan extended an offer to three-star 2022 Tampa (Fla.) Gaither defensive tackle Tawfiq Thomas earlier today. Both Nua and analyst Joe Stabb got on the phone with Thomas and had a productive conversation. Thomas is leaning towards staying close to home early on. Right now, Miami seems like the frontrunner, but it will be dependent on how hard the Hurricanes push. Outside of Miami, Thomas doesn't have many quality options in the southeast. He is high on Maryland, so that's another to watch, but the door is open for Michigan to make a move with the mammoth 360-pounder.

*** Michigan is still making a run at four-star 2022 Flower Mound (Texas) Coram Deo defensive tackle Jadon Scarlett. Nua and the Wolverines offered back in September. While there was a bit of a drop in contact with the staff changes, Nua and defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald have both been reaching out. Scarlett is a high academic kid at a small private school in Dallas (don't be surprised if Maurice Linguist gets involved here). He does have interest in what Michigan has to offer both on and off the field. However, pulling him from the Lone Star State will be tough. Baylor is impressing him early, and Texas just offered this week.
