Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
*** Rivals100 offensive lineman Rayshaun Benny is set to release his Top 15 in the near future. The Oak Park (Mich.) High product has taken a methodical approach to his recruitment hence why he's still leaving the door open to so many schools. I fully expect Michigan to survive his first cut. The Wolverines have been consistent contenders for Benny and made a big impression on his most recent visit. Michigan is recruiting him on both sides of the ball and is doing a nice job in this one. But there is still a long way to go with Benny, who is also high on schools like Kentucky, Michigan State and Ohio State.
*** Rivals250 defensive tackle Kevin Gilliam is also getting ready to release his Top 15. Like with Benny, I fully expect Michigan to make the list. Michigan hosted Gilliam a couple of months ago, and the Highland Springs (Va.) High product has been high on the Wolverines for a while. UM defensive line coach Shaun Nua is contact with him on a consistent basis as well. Michigan is very much in the mix here but needs to keep working hard. Gilliam is very high on Penn State, and he is looking to visit South Carolina and Oklahoma soon.
*** Michigan recently extended an offer to three-star Miami (Fla.) Palmetto athlete Derrick Edwards, who released his Top 10 schools today. Michigan made the cut and will look to get him on campus after the dead period. The Wolverines are recruiting Edwards as a safety with new position coach Bob Shoop leading the way. While in-state schools Miami and Florida State made the list, Edwards seems pretty open early on and does not have a decision timeline.
*** Michigan recently put an offer on the table for four-star Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons wide receiver Troy Stellato, but the Wolverines did not make much headway. Stellato released a final two of Clemson and Ohio State today. On a similar note, Michigan recently offered three-star Lehigh (Fla.) Lehigh Acres inside linebacker Jake Chaney. However, Chaney gave Wisconsin a verbal pledge today. Rivals100 St. Louis (Mo.) De Smet cornerback Jakailin Johnson was another recent Michigan offer, but he committed to Ohio State today.
