Here are tonight's Blue Chips.
I caught up with Plano (Texas) John Paul II assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Charlie Williams to get his thoughts on two new Michigan offers at his school as well as the recruiting efforts from new Co-DC Maurice Linguist in Dallas.
On new 2022 safety offer Terrance Brooks:
“It may sound crazy, but I think he’s a three and out kid. He’s so talented. He has so much room for growth, but he’s also smart. He knows the game so well. He knows what the offense is going to do. He knows what the receivers are going to do. He knows what kind of route they’re going to run depending on where they line up. That goes along with his athletic ability. He’s so fast. If you put him on the watch, he’s going to be in the 4.3s. He has cat like reflexes. He’s also physical and will come up and hit you. He’s not afraid to take on the best receiver. He has the ability to play on Sundays.”
On new 2023 cornerback offer Braxton Myers:
“He’s a bigger corner. Some people may look at him at safety if he continues to grow. He’s closer to 6-foot-2 right now. At the same time, he has cover skills. He’s a technician. He has good feet. He’s aggressive as well. He’s not afraid to come up and hit you. I won’t say he has the speed like that, but he won’t get beat. For a young kid, he’s really good. Like I said, he’s more of a technician. He’s been (private) training for a while, and you can tell it’s really paying off.”
On Linguist recruiting Dallas hard:
“I’m familiar with him. I knew him a little bit when he was at Texas A&M. He can recruit. He’s definitely putting people on notice and letting them know that he’s back in the game. He has a lot of buzz. A lot of coaches here love him. They are happy to see him back in the college ranks. I think it’s good for college football. He has the love and support of a lot of Texas high school football coaches. I’ll tell you that.”
On if Michigan can land Dallas kids with Linguist on staff:
“I would say yes. A lot of kids aren’t just going to Texas, Texas A&M and TCU. They are spreading their wings and leaving. You know, you have the Green twins (German and Gemon) from DeSoto up there, and they still talk to people here. Coach Linguist will only help with that. A lot of these kids are looking for the place that will develop them and get them to the next level. Michigan has history. If they have a chance to go up there and learn from the best then distance doesn’t matter. For the two kids we have, the academics are very appealing as well.”
