Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
I caught up with James Williams, who runs Pro Process Academy in Memphis. PPA is a training and mentorship program that also has a club 7v7 branch, featuring new four-star 2022 Michigan defensive back commit Kody Jones. I caught up with Williams to get more insight on Jones. Here are some highlights from our interview.
On his overall thoughts on Jones:
“He brings versatility. He can play the nickel and corner. He’s extremely quick. He has excellent ball skills. He’s very twitchy. There is so much that you can do with a player like that.”
On how high Jones’ ceiling is:
“Great question. He has a really high talent level right now, but he’s probably 70 percent of the player he’s going to be. He has a ton of upside. He’s going to get his grown man body, and he’s going to continue to grow as a player.”
On how Jones will develop under new Michigan Co-DC Maurice Linguist:
“With a coach like Mo Linguist coaching him, he’s going to become so well-rounded on the field. Mo is big with the development of the man and the player. That has to go together. Coach Mo is a dog. If you’re playing under a dog, you have no choice. He puts you in a spot where you’re going to get to that plate and move some people out of the way and eat or you’re not going to eat. Kody is a dog, and he’s going to eat. I’ll tell you that.”
On Michigan looking to the south for recruits:
“In a couple of years, (Kody) will get the pick to beat Ohio State. Yeah, I said it. When you get athletic guys like that, you’ll only get more of them. Some kids just have ‘it’ written all over them. Kody has ‘it.’ Landing him and Taylor (Groves), those are the types of kids you need to win championships not just games.”
