Here are tonight's Blue Chips...
Michigan recently dipped down into Louisiana and offered three-star 2022 Lafayette (La.) Christian Academy cornerback Jordan Allen, who named the Wolverines in his top group last week, and Rivals100 Lafayette (La.) Acadiana cornerback Laterrance Welch, who is currently committed to LSU. I caught up with their trainer, Donald Fusilier of 4th Quarter Mentality, to get his thoughts on their game and Michigan's recruiting efforts in The Boot.
On what Jordan Allen brings to the table:
"The first thing that sticks out about Jordan is how his body has developed since he was a sophomore. He's so strong. He's that physical press corner. He has great feet and hips. He rarely allows allows completions. He has some Jabrill Peppers in him the stature and versatility. As far as fit, it just depends what school he goes to. If you have a school that likes long corners, he'll probably play on the inside. He can do what you need him to."
On what Laterrance Welch brings to the table:
"He has ball skills like a wide receiver. He's long. He's highly competitive. With both LT and Jordan, they are humble. They never stopped working when they blew up with offers. They kept the target on their back. I think LT is a straight corner all day, especially with that length. A lot of guys at his size don't have the twitch and speed. LT has long speed. He has exceptional makeup speed. He can run. A lot of long corners struggle to run. He's a freak of nature. He's like a Greedy Williams. He has the slender build with ball skills."
On Michigan's recruiting efforts in Louisiana:
"Louisiana has a lot of diamonds in the rough. We have a lot of Power Five guys that people just don't know about. It's just about identifying. Not every state is a state like Louisiana. Corners and wide receivers are produced year in and year out. You have to go into places like Louisiana if you want to win. Success in college football is predicated on what type of guys you get. Louisiana and Florida have the best athletes in the country if you ask me. It's truly a hotbed. With Michigan, the tradition appeals. Look at guys like Charles Woodson. Michigan is also known for letting guys play both ways. There aren't many that allow that. I'm a historian of the game, so I watched Desmond Howard and guys like that. They aren't the only program that has tradition, but they are one of the most historical programs. College football does well when Michigan is doing well. I've always liked the winged helmets. There is just something about that."
