Here are tonight's Blue Chips:
*** I was in Baltimore today and had an opportunity to see Reisterstown (Md.) Franklin safety Daymon David. Michigan is continuing to make David one of its top priorities on the back end this cycle. In fact, David remains the No. 1 overall target on the safety board. Michigan is going all in on his recruitment and loves what he brings to the table from a skillset standpoint. As I mentioned a few days ago, those in Ann Arbor believe that things are moving in the right direction here.
*** Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has been personally involved in this recruitment. Harbaugh actually has weekly video chats with David, and the two hopped on the phone a couple of days ago. Michigan is also getting some help from freshman RJ Moten, who was on the phone with David earlier today. The two are becoming good friends. Of course, Michigan safeties coach Bob Shoop is hard at work here as well. David said he loves the experience both Shoop and Harbaugh have under their belts.
*** I also had a chance to speak to David's mother, Nicole, who told me she's really enjoyed getting to know Harbaugh throughout the recruiting process. She said Harbaugh is a nice guy with a lot of enthusiasm. She also has been impressed with Michigan's virtual tours. She said the next step in the process is obviously getting to campus and seeing everything in-person. By the way, Nicole is a big Baltimore Ravens fan and loves John Harbaugh, brother of Jim.
*** Michigan's biggest competition in this recruitment is Oklahoma. David is a big fan of former OU and current Ravens wide receiver Hollywood Brown. The two are actually supposed to hang out soon. OU QB commit Caleb Williams is from the DMV and has been actively recruiting David. On top of that, former Oklahoma defensive back Will Johnson is a family friend and mentor to David. I would say Michigan and OU are at the top of mind for David with Boston College, Mississippi State and Indiana still in the mix.
*** Lastly, David had a really impressive workout today. He still needs to keep working on his feet and adding muscle to his upper half, but he's built well and has really good speed. He also impressed in ball skills work. On film, David is a ferocious hitter that loves to lay the wood. Based on that and what I saw today, I would grade David as a high three or low four. Right now, he's very underrated by Rivals as two star.
