*** I did a pretty long interview with four-star 2022 West Bloomfield (Mich.) High athlete Dillon Tatum a few days ago and was looking forward to sharing that with you guys. Unfortunately, the audio file is corrupted and not playable. I will likely get Tatum on my podcast soon but wanted to share some notes from our conversation. First off, Michigan re-offered Tatum last week. New assistants Ron Bellamy, Maurice Linguist and George Helow were all on the call, and Tatum was fired up about it. Michigan has always been one of his top choices, and he loves what the program has to offer on and off the field. While Michigan is trending with some other safety types, Tatum provides versatility, and the Wolverines are looking to take a large DB class in 2022.
*** The day after the group call, Tatum had a FaceTime with the aforementioned Helow. It was Tatum's first time really getting to know Helow, who made a strong first impression on him. Tatum said Helow pitched him on changing the culture at Michigan and taking the defense in a new direction. He also talked to Tatum about playing safety with opportunities to line up at corner and in the nickel. Tatum is excited to get to know Helow more as well as learn more about the new defensive scheme. I'm still gathering more on Helow, but the kids I've talked to really like his energy.
*** Of course, Tatum has a strong connection to Michigan through Bellamy, who recently left West Bloomfield to join the Michigan staff. Bellamy has been recruiting Tatum since the day he arrived in Ann Arbor, and that won't stop any time soon. Tatum said he was caught a little off guard when Bellamy announced that he would be leaving West Bloomfield but added that he was happy for him. Tatum loved playing for Bellamy, and he said he would love to do it again at the next level. With Bellamy on staff and former West Bloomfield players Donovan Edwards and Makari Paige also recruiting him, it's hard not to see Tatum ending up at Michigan.
*** I've actually had my FutureCast pick in for Tatum to land at Michigan for a while. Similar to Edwards, I put one in super early. Tatum seems like a Michigan kid, and again, there are so many ties to the program in his recruitment. As long as Michigan pushes, there is no doubt in my mind he'll end up in Ann Arbor. Tatum doesn't want to commit this second, but he doesn't want to take it too long either. Ideally, he would like to get another look at Michigan and visits schools like Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Michigan State has made him a big priority and is going all in on him (there are actually a few picks in for Tatum to land in East Lansing), but the Spartans haven't had much luck in head-to-head battles with U-M,
