Here are tonight's Blue Chips:

I caught up with George Rooks Sr., father of new Michigan Rivals250 defensive line commit George Rooks, to get his thoughts on Michigan, their commitment and more.

On the family's decision to commit to Michigan:

"The schools he came down to are all fantastic — Michigan, Boston College and Penn State. I think there was a comfortability factor with Michigan because my daughter went there for grad school. He's been out there quite a bit. I think it just came down to comfort. Also, those three schools were the first to offer George, so that meant something to him. But it was just comfort. He loves the coaches. The whole staff is great. They all showed him a lot of love. That was special. I told my son when the head coach recruits you, the coordinators, the defensive line coach, everyone, that's the best course of action. Those things are important in recruiting. I remember when Coach (Jim) Harbaugh offered George in the ninth grade at a camp years ago. That meant something as well."

On Michigan defensive line coach Shaun Nua:

"In this recruiting process, you have many different kinds of folks. The one thing about Coach Nua is his genuine personality. That connected with my son. As you know, my son is not a social media type (laughs). He has a big wall up and is a very private person. Coach Nua's approach to him was very methodical but also very genuine. He's nice. Even though he's a big man, he has a very calm demeanor. They connected. They are both very intense on the field and watching film but off the field, they're funny, always laughing people."

On how Michigan's new defensive staff helped close late:

"(Mike Macdonald) got right into recruiting George as soon as he got hired. They walked through the new defense and the new style. My son liked it. In this business, people come and go. You have to like the school and make sure you can see yourself there. Michigan is great with what it has to offer academically and from a social environment. But he did a good job coming in and helping recruit George."

On what stood out about Michigan as a school:

"I'm lucky that I had a daughter that went to grad school at Michigan and played a year of basketball there. That gave us a little insight on how strong the alumni base is and how strong the network is. In terms of academics, it's a phenomenal school. My son is lucky to be recruited by Michigan. That's how we see it."

On how happy the family is that their recruitment is over after a crazy process:

"That's a good question for him (laughs). He took a lot of the calls and that stuff. I'm just happy that he's happy. He always talked about Michigan, and he just fell in love with it."
