Nice event this morning. Lots of analysis regarding the inaugural year for the Big Ten Hockey Conference. Non-conference scheduling freedom, level of play and tthe chance to perform in high quality venues cited as positives. Very good vibe from the coaches on the first B1G season.
Had the opportunity to speak with Zach Hyman and Andrew Copp for 15-20 minutes each. Both were positive about a fresh attitude in the locker room and the work ethic and commitment over the summer into the pre-season. If the quality of the individuals doing the leading matters, this year's squad will have top-notch leadership. 18 of 21 players stuck around this summer to participate in conditioning/fitness work. Both Copp and Hyman know the proof is on the ice, but are encouraged by the team's enthusiasm and buy-in to date.
I will be attending both NTDP games this weekend, hopefully with the chance to speak post-game with Joe Cecconi and Cooper Marody of Muskegon
on Friday night and then Kyle Connor of Youngstown on Saturday. Also, lots of committed future Michigan talents on the NTDP teams to assess.
I will be starting the freshman Q and A series early next week. Still have to catch up with a couple of them yet.
