looks pretty vulnerable. MSU, granted the game was over, gave up a ton of points to WMU which I did not expect. Northwestern looked really solid on D or perhaps Stanford is just that bad now that all the JH recruits are gone. Penn State should be embarrassed but that's not new. Purdue was as terrible as expected. Wisconsin was overmatched by a very strong Bama team. Nebraska lost to a very good team - no shame that. BYU lost it's studly QB - same thing happened last year and they were pretty unstoppable before that. I picked BYU to potentially beat Michigan but with Hill gone, I think we win the game. Curious to see how OSU comes out looking today.

As for Michigan - I was encouraged and discouraged. Encouraged in that we made some adjustments and we looked better in some areas. Discouraged in that I think our offense will be as bad or worse then last year. Our O-line seems like they all have some really bad habits (article about it today). Our RBs can't hit holes to save their lives - I personally felt like Ty was the best back so not sure why he only got a few carries. Ruddock is average at best but our WRs are pretty terrible. I know Ruddock overthrew 2 balls but really great WRs would have adjusted or at least dove to catch the balls. Butt is about the only bright spot on our entire offense. AJ Williams should not be allowed near a football - he's pretty terrible. We just don't have talent on offense unfortunately and unless our D or ST can get us some easy points - this season might be a struggle. Also, our D is good, not great like everyone thinks...still not turnovers - 10 turnovers in the past 13 games now which is pretty pathetic and we still can not tackle - we missed sacking Wilson 4 times. They show flashes of greatness but can not sustain it though.

They say that biggest improvement in game comes from Game 1 to Game 2. I think we need to show some major improvements especially on offense otherwise it will be a long road ahead.

Power-5 conferences vs. each other after Week 1 (Notre Dame is Power 5 and BYU is not):

SEC 4-0
Big XII 1-1
Pac-12 2-2
B1G 2-3
ACC 0-4
(Notre Dame 1-0)

Losses by Power-5 conferences to non Power-5 conference schools:

ACC 0, SEC 1, Big XII 1, B1G 3, Pac-12 3

Not a strong start for the B1G, only ahead of the ACC. MSU vs. Oregon is the big one this week for our conference. Michigan, Iowa, and Rutgers also play Power-5 conference schools, but all lesser ones (Oregon State, Iowa State, Washington State). Minnesota on the road at Colorado State, which isn't a gimme. Everybody else hosting non Power-5 schools.

ACC- Georgia Tech won 69-0 Thursday night playing Alcorn State which is essentially a high school team. Clemson also won beating Wofford which is a very small school that they should not be playing. I really hate to count those as wins because that would be like Michigan beating Hillsdale College or Farmington Harrison.

Yeah, Georgia Tech playing a SWAC team --- and a bad SWAC team --- is absurd. SWAC football is horrific.

Clemson I can forgive --- Wofford is right up the street and has been fairly successful at the D-1AA level. They beat Appalachian State in 2007. Had eventual champion North Dakota State on the ropes in the 2012 D-1AA playoffs. I think Wofford & Presbyterian (Bo was an assistant at PC for a year way back in the day) are the 2-smallest schools in enrollment that play D-1AA football.

Wofford is a good football program for a small school and they are right down the road from Clemson. Bo did coach at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina and you would be surprised the amount of people that have no clue about that. I have been coaching high school football in SC for over 20 years now and many of my fellow coaches do not know this. They have a big picture of Bo in the Athletic Dorm at PC stating that he was a football coach there.

There's a colleague of me who is about 30 years old who is a big Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) fan. We were talking last week, I asked who they played, and he said "Presbyterian. That's a big game, two of Bo Schembechler schools' facing off against each other."

I was highly impressed he knew that --- I'm definitely putting a good word in for him with his boss. That sort of knowledge deserves a promotion. :)

Agree with the post. The Big 10 though has GOT to start winning games against teams like TCU/Utah to gain some respect.

Uhh TCU is a very good team and they by no means destroyed Minnesota. TCU returned like 19 out of 22 starters from a team that mopped Ole Miss in their bowl. Losing to TCU isn't a bad loss.

Don't worry, Ohio State will carry the conference again this year.

You're like "the Miami of the Big East" in 2002.

Defending national champions, incredibly stacked roster, carrying a weak conference, #1 throughout the entire regular season with everyone viewing a repeat of national champions as inevitable.

Until ......................

Until they ran into Ohio State. I would hope that since the Buckeyes were the team that took Miami to task in 2002, the 2015 Buckeyes would be less likely to fall into the same trap. Unfortunately what might seem to me to be fairly recent history, to the guys wearing the jerseys that would be considered ancient history.

There are no guarantees and OSU certainly hasn't won any championships yet this year.

I did not see a lot of the games but OSU looked pretty unstoppable on offense to me - and Braxton was sick!!! It's still too early to tell though as teams are just getting into it. I think the BIG does look really weak and OSU's toughest test (yep you heard it here first) will actually be Michigan. Rivalry game where talent and records get chucked out the door (just see how Michigan has played in the game the past 4 years). Get past that, and OSU should likely be in the playoffs. I still have no idea how good MSU is - they played a pretty crappy opponent so hard to say their D is bad because they gave up points because they could have been playing to the level of their opponents. Minn actually looked really good stopping a supposedly really good TCU team. Week 6 is the barometer generally. Until then, every week is a crap shoot in terms of judging how good or bad a team looks because you don't have a gage for their opponents just yet.

I will say this though - Penn State looked terrible!

If VT had not lost Their QB, OSU would have been a struggle to the end. They can and will be beaten this year. Not the dominant showing of the repeat Nebraska teams of the 90's

Poor VT, having to play with their 2nd string QB.....

Please tell me you think that was the best OSU is going to play this year. In case you had the game on mute we were missing 4 players who all contribute, 1 of which is arguably the best defensive player in college football. Bosa allows our LB's to roam free. Not to mention it was the first game of the season. Can we be beat....anyone can on the given day but don't question the quality of this team without a full deck after one game.

It's the head coaches job to ensure that a championship team is NEVER without a full deck? Why were they missing those players? Was it due to injuries? OR was it the same ol stuff that plagued Urbie in Gainsville? Lack of team control

I'm with you scfanblue, Ohio State has no chance of winning the National Championship this year. given the performance against VT I'd be surprised if they even become bowl eligible.

Hyperbole. Yes, all teams can be beaten on any given day - college ball is like that.

BUT. Ohio state would have won by double digits regardless of who the qb for VT was.

Urban isn't perfect, but as of late he's done an ok job making sure his team manages without a full deck (winning the national title with his 3rd string QB, pasting Va Tech without the 4 suspended players)

don't sleep on RUTGISZ this year.. they have OSU and MSU at home in JERZY which nobody walks in and wins easily when the weather is nice

The Big Ten started slow in 2014, as well.

Two Top 25 programs, Ohio State and Michigan State.

Northwestern took care of business over Stanford. Not sure how good either will be by season end, but in the Big Ten West - Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue likely will all be better. Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin are likely rebuilding. The West is wide open in '15.

Michigan made too many mistakes against a good Utah team. They should improve as the season goes on. However, dating back to Rich Rod, Michigan hasn't been a good road team.

Penn State looks like they may take a step back in Year 2. Not uncommon over the years at some schools.

Maryland and Rutgers will likely take a step back too. Indiana looked awful vs. Southern Illinois.
