Out with the wife grocery shopping Friday (yeah, you do that kind of thing to score points when you're retired), and went to the beer aisle at Meijers to make my beer selection for the week. I was tempted by the twelve pack of Stone's Brew sampler ... they brew some might fine beer (thank you for the tip Reality Man), but even at the sale price of $17 some, that's hard on my Scottish blood ... so I opted for the Bells Amber ale that was marked down like $2.50. I checked my Beer Advocates app on my iPhone ... and that sealed the deal. One mighty good brew!

It is good but over in SW Michigan there you ought to be able to find it in plenty of local establishments on draft and then it's REALLY good.

True. I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me have some taps here at home, so have to go with the bottled brews ... for now.

If you're ever in the area, check out the Livery in Benton Harbor ... awesome microbrewery ... their beer is outstanding!

Well I have to weigh in with Bell's Two-Hearted is consistently their best product, plus it always reminds me of the Hemingway story of similar name.

Saugatuck Brewing Co. (which is actually in Douglas) in your area is a pretty good place too.

It is but Best Brown is out now and that is one of my favorite seasonal beers.
I feel like that has gone downhill in recent years, similar to Oberon's decline. I'll pick up a six pack and check to make sure.

Two Hearted is Bell's best beer right now. Third Coast Old ale is also outstanding, but expensive at around $16 for a six-pack.

Two Hearted is one of my favorite brews. I like Third Coast Beer ... haven't had the Third Coast Ale yet ... but man, that is expensive. Have to remind myself how much more it would cost in a bar/restaurant to rationalize it.

Oberon got so over hyped that it got to the point where it was "in" to knock it, I think it's still pretty good for a now and then summer time brew.

No, it's not that at all. They have ramped up production so much to meet demand that it clearly doesn't taste as good as it used to. On tap I'll still grab one, but never the bottles.

That does makes sense MGB ... but I'm guessing my taste isn't quite as refined as others, I still like it ... ice cold with an orange slice on a warm sunny day.

I'd like to try all of those scfanblue, enjoy your Bells Amber Ale, I'm pretty sure you will.

All beers are good while savoring another Michigan victory ... will have plenty on hand here! ;)

Can you spot the bottle of Bells Third Coast on my sailboat?

Bells Amber is my go-to year round beer -- definitely top shelf.

I did, however, stock up on Oberon to see me through the long, cold winter.
