i can tell you that Warde Manuel is NOT going to fire Jim, and if Jim were to resign, I am not sure you want Warde handling the search. In fact I am sure you don’t. This is not a situation where the AD’s office is prepared in advance and recognizes the top coaching talent out there. They have no clue. You are MUCH more likely
to get a Brady Hoke type that will not cost much and will say all the right things and give Warde a pass for another 4 years. Young, hot shot talents that have an edge are not known to this Athletic Department and are not going to be the target. It will be a slow, external advisor led search that will result in a “consensus” hire that reflects the “values” of Michigan as an institution. Criteria will be on deference to the institution, cost, safe personality and diversity. x and os, recruiting prowess, etc all nice to haves.

But it wont happen. Warde desperately wants Jim to continue coaching. He will spend more time trying to convince Jim to stay then pushing him out. Fact. Trust me a bit on this one.
