Baxter toUSC***Yes...that Baxter***

Strange to make a lateral move but Baxter is an old timer and is a California guy who might possibly prefer LA over Ann Arbor. He did run a highly successful program helping athletes learn how to balance their academics and athletics. His departure will not hurt recruitment. Michigan made strides this year on special teams. Makes me wonder if JH canned him? Baxter was at USC so maybe that is why he went back? Harbaugh will make sure we are fine in this area next year. We did not block any punts this year. Not sure about FG or XP's. Even though O'Neil made the ultimate mistakes against MSU, there was no adjustment to the Spartans rush formation and even though I did not want to admit it at that time, it looked really bad on the Special Teams not to be able to max protect in that situation.

Man, talk about bi-polar results...great at developing kickers, kick return game much better, blew biggest game of the year, allowed huge returns in several games...this may have been a mutual parting of ways.

Actually I was expecting more out of special teams.
According to the hype. I was underwhelmed.

AGP. Kickoff return TD and near TD punt return TD one game, another punt return TD another game, the implosion vs spartoons. Plus zero kick blocks by us, I believe. Thought this guy was going to give us elite ST play.

Overall ST was way better than in year's past. I expect that to continue with whomever Harbaugh brings in.

The special teams ended up 12th in the country. I disagree that they were not very good.

ST were outstanding with occasional huge gaffes.

Not sure how much to attribute to coaching, and how much to the wild Aussie punter, who could do things to a football I've never seen when he wasn't forgetting how football works, and the outstanding decision-making and center-field catching ability of Peppers.

Yup. Outside of Oniell & Peppers (Allen too ftm) individual talents & abilities, I didn't really see anything extra 'special' about our special teams.

Also, Baxter has a daughter really involved in rodeo barrel riding (probably out West somewhere) & perhaps he wants to be closer to her.

Either way, Harbaugh will have a top caliber ST Coordinator. Bet on it.

Go Blue!
