it appears that Morris is not likely going to be our starter nor does he seem to have made any progress. Seems like WS is the man to beat, and that we will likely end up with JR from Iowa transferring and starting. Really glad to see that JH is not settling for an average QB! Love it!

Regarding Ruddock, the (potential) Iowa transfer ...

(1) does the B1G even allow graduate-student transfers to play right off the bat? The B1G's transfer rules are a bit more restrictive versus the NCAA as a whole (e.g., Boren having to pay his way at Ohio State).

(2) is anyone necessarily sure Iowa would put Michigan as one of the "you're allowed to transfer here schools"? I know Iowa and U-M don't play in 2015, but they are in the same conference, could theoretically play in Indianapolis .......

Re: Regarding Ruddock, the (potential) Iowa transfer ...

as a grad student you can play right away - the school can not control that. The players earns that right once they receive their degree. So if, Ruddock wanted to play for Michigan, Iowa can not block it nor prevent him from playing right away.

Re: Regarding Ruddock, the (potential) Iowa transfer ...

(1) Boren was not a grad transfer, so he had a different situation

(2) I don't think those stipulations can be put on a grad transfer, again it's a different set of rules compared to a regular transfer of an undergrad.

Well, while I agree things may look that way NOW, we're also not even 1/3 of the way through spring ball, so we have the rest of spring, the summer, and then fall camp before any decisions on QB will have to be made.

Rudock will have plenty to prove when he gets here, he won't just be handed the starting job.

My guess if JH is looking at Rudock from Iowa there is NO ONE good enough!

QB Jake Rudock, who started 2 yrs at @FOXSports[/B]. As a grad, is elig. now

When a new Head coach comes in and is looking at QBs 'to bring in' it tells me we have an empty cupboard , bare of any QB talent.

Cool ... in retrospect, my questions were pretty dumb

the simple fact that he IS visiting Michigan basically implies he'd be eligible right away. No use visiting somewhere you wouldn't be eligible

No, it tells me Jim Harbaugh wants a ton of competition at the QB position. Actually it doesn't tell me that, I already knew that. When he was at Stanford, he had 8 scholarship QB's on the roster. He wants competition at that position and the cream to rise to the top. Our issue recently is there has always been one clear cut front runner for QB, and that's not good, it does not breed much competition. By absolutely no coincidence, our QB position has been poor recently.

(2) Would be shocked if Ferentz put that restriction on.

Very heady QB you guys would be getting.

Ruddock would not transfer to UM if he didn't think he had a good shot of starting. I have to believe the coaches have told him the competition is wide open and after viewing his film they believe he has a good shot of being a starter. A player is not going to transfer for this last year of football without a strong indicator telling him he would be the favorite. I'm not saying Harbaugh has told him he would start, because I don't think Harbaugh would do that, but I'm sure he has been told that the spot is wide open and he has the skill/ability to take the starting job.

JH is looking at Rudock from Iowa AND the competition

will be for WHO runs the Scout Demo team ! I have never seen Speight , but I have seen Morris and Morris is no where near the answer. His best move is =Rudock comes he transfers to a MAC school where he can play. I care les about how he "SPINS" the ball. I care how he QBs the team. Shane has been here 2 years with no sparkle of what could be. Jimi is NOT going to wait. "74

Hoke had many shortcomings as a coach and developing QB's was near the top of the list. I don't t think the former coaching staff really new what to look for in QB's and certainly didn't do anything to develop them as players. I'm optimistic that the young QB's (Malzone, Speight and Gentry) will develop under Harbaugh but you can't expect any of these three to be ready to have much success leading the team this coming season....the QB position is the most important position on the team and takes the longest to prepare to play. Harbaugh is very smart and realizes that if Morris doesn't pan out he is left with a bunch of freshman and it's difficult to win big with freshman playing QB. Hopefully we get a really good QB to transfer to Ann Arbor for this upcoming season.

QB Situation-Sign of Hoke's Laziness After 2011

Basically, after the success of 2011, Hoke got really comfortable and lazy in his position and it ultimately cost him his job. This goes hand in hand with the fact he sliced his own throat by not recruiting a top quarterback prospect during those times. This was also Al Borges fault as well as the OC. Hoke's loyalty to his assistants like (Funk) who sucked as an OL coach was a formula for disaster. The final straw for Hoke was his allegiance to Brandon and his allowing Brandon to influence his management and recruiting decisions. Harbaugh is doing a great job of bringing in as many guys as possible to correct this NOW so Michigan can have a winning season next year. IF the Iowa QB transfers to UM (He is pretty good) then he will probably lead Michigan's offense next year. That would give the other young QB's a full year of development and experience instead of throwing them to the wolves the first year and costing the offense a year of growth together. The Iowa QB would be perfect for Michigan next year and that would actually solve their QB problem for next season. He is pretty good and has started now for two years owning a 60% completion rate. Harbaugh will increase that considerably.
