Since we likely have a few days before this is settled, who are your realistic candidates?
OC Moorhead- just the guy we need to revive our offense if we can close on him. He is such a great fit with Gattis and the transition costs are minimal.
RB Hart- Mike would be ideal but not sure if he’s willing. He’s making about 375k and I‘m sure we could improve on that. I don’t think it‘s that hard to find a good RB coach who’s a plus recruiter. Who else makes sense here?
Co-DC/S Banks- He seems like an up and comer who will give us a nice boost to our instate recruiting. Hopefully a move like this helps to undue some of the damage we did by losing to Sparty.
DC- This seems to be the biggest unknown.
Mason seemed like the obvious first target but I wonder if the SEC interest is creating a salary that we don’t want to pay. The dots seem to connect him to SC, but he still hasn’t signed so he could be waiting on JH to make a decision. He has a really good rep but a limited track record as DC
Leavitt seems like strong possibility. Obvious connections to Jim and has a strong rep as a no nonsense x and o guy. He has some Florida roots but I don’t think he adds a lot to recruiting.
Anderson is another strong possibility because of tie ins and previous interest. I think he is a plus as a recruiter but his last few defenses have really fallen off the map. I think he brings some other positives to the program but you have wonder if his scheme has been solved.
Heacock- I don’t know if anyone has credibly connected us to him yet, but I was hoping he could be the off the radar surprise that Totch was referencing. Seems like JH would be really familiar with him based on being here and a few other stints in the Big Ten. He has apparently restyled his defense to stop the modern spread offenses and the best and brightest have made him a summer tour stop to pick his brain. If we want cutting edge and a guy that will adapt, then I think he would be a great choice. He also has extensive Ohio roots which would be a nice bonus.

DL- no clue and it’s probably dependent on the new DC. Nua is a concern and I don’t see how you keep him unless something Brown was doing was hurting his production. I thought he was a reach when we hired him and it was super concerning that two all big ten type DE’s didn’t look to be thriving like you would expect this year. He also doesn’t seem to have brought anything to recruiting and dline coaches are frequently some of your better recruiters. I really hope we make a change here!
If nothing else the Oregon vs Iowa st game is a little more interesting.
Happy New Year everyone and thanks to Chris and the staff for making this the place that it is!
