As usual, I turn to my Fort associates for best advice: this topic is on “kidney stones”

I know that we are still in the throes of victory on this day, but I could use some sage advice from folks that have gone through this OR treat for this...never experienced ‘kidney stones’ before; only heard grimaced stories from people over the years that it was sort of, well, next to childbirth. I thought that an advice thread on this might benefit both myself AND anyone else unfortunate to acquire and attempt to pass these miserable little suckers !
Apparently I have had a total of THREE hanging (in some manner that I don’t understand or really need to). The first one passed about two weeks ago. Painful and nauseating, yes, but relatively “easy” in comparison. From initial pain to passing it was only about nine hours. My family M.D. said “Go to the E.R.”, and that is where, via CAT scan/blood sample/urine + symptomology I was diagnosed. They saw three stones, one 3mm and two 4mm. The 3mm was first to go (as noted).
So while on a mini-vacation up in the U.P.’s Keweenaw Peninsula, got STRONG symptoms of pain/bleeding...that also lasted about nine hours and must have passed. No pain for about 12 hours and:eek: then the third of three hit, and this last sucker (apparently the 4mm one) has been raising holy hell for four days now. Went back into the E.R. (Friday afternoon) to see if they could offer relief. They repeated the aforementioned tests plus this time gave me an IV with (water/sugar), some Toridol (an “NFL Special ?”) and a bit of morphine. Took most of pain away for about only two hours which surprised me- must have been a conservative amt.
Anyway, they prescribed (a) oxycodone 5mg./Tylenol 250mg. tablets; (b) a Flomax-product to hopefully widen that tube from kidney to bladder; (c) an antibiotic (Ciprofloxacin) as preventative for infection (as the rough stones rip into the tube); and finally (d) Ondansetron, an anti-nausea pill because oddly, either the pain or some reaction commonly causes one to “dry-hurl.”
Graphic, yes. But hey, many of you may have NEVER had this and like me, there may unfortunately be a first for others.

So I am asking advice from those that have had it and/or those that treat this. How long do medical folks allow this to go on for me? I understand there is a “L _________”oscipy or something (laser that blasts this 4mm kidney stone into more easily-passible size? Is THIS procedure in itself particularly painful or invasive?
I have essentially heard “Drink water...lots and lots of water.” Well something tells me that “Urban” (I had to name it...so “Urban” seemed to be a good name) does not want to or CANNOT leave, despite their CAT-scan measure of 4mm.
I want to be in shape for the Iowa game !

Advice greatly appreciated, Fort associates!
Thanks.;)
