Balas alluded to this on one of his podcasts and I gotta admit I do see it (though admittedly I lack anything concrete).
Both lean on scripture and wear their piety/faith on their sleeve, both took second-tier programs to the top or near the top very quickly against all odds, and both give off a less than trustworthy vibe.
