This is JOK's final year--he's gone after this, and it would be a shame if we never got a chance to see what he could have done for this program. After being a great teammate for the past two years, and coming through in the clutch not only last weekend but last year against IU (yes, he did not have a great passing game, but remember that long 3rd-down run he made late in the game in the snow that kept an eventual scoring drive alive?), I think he's earned the same length of leash that Speight has been afforded, especially given the way Speight has played.
Meanwhile, Speight could come back next year as a fifth-year senior, if he really wants to battle Peters and McCaffrey for one more shot as the starting QB. We've seen QBs do this before--Griese lost the starting job his fourth year and came back for a fifth year with renewed focus and led UM to the NC.
The bottom line is, JOK will be gone in a few months--he deserves a chance to close out his college career with not only a chance to direct a great program to further greatness, but to showcase to the NFL what he can do at this level.
