Michigan wins the game 1-0.

Michigan scored a goal early in the first period. Came close a couple more times in the period, dominating a lot of play in this period. Didn't score another goal in the first, but they took that 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The second was up and down, but nobody scored. Michigan tried to give OSU a chance when they took another penalty in the final two minutes of the period, but tonight they escaped without giving up a late period goal. After two it was still 1-0.

OSU threw everything they had at Michigan in the third and Michigan held on getting the win with that little 1-0 score.

Nagelvoort had some really big saves, it was one of those games for him too where he saw everything. He had to turn away 42 shots so it wasn't a slow night in the net.

These are the games that make this season all the more perplexing. They can get it done when they keep their focus the entire night, unfortunately these games have been the rarity rather than rule. Four games left, all at home, but all against two teams fighting for conference and national playoff position. It isn't going to be easy.

Well, it was nice to see...kept waiting for disaster to strike but Nagelvoort made some big saves, defended better, got some bodies/sticks involved and pulled out a win. Maybe over the next 2 weeks, we can be a giant PITA and have a voice in the title. As stated in one of your other threads, you never thought they'd lose so many players off last years team...I don't remember ever seeing a Michigan goalie facing 40+ shots almost every game. Good day for the men's BB team and the hockey team. Good for them.

Good for Zach, and good for the boyz - 42 shots thrown at him, but like Puckhead indicated, he was able to see every one, and so he stopped ever one. Which means the players in front of him were doing their job in the D-zone (and forecheck was good too). Hard to believe these 2 teams could play a 1-0 game, eh?

Returning to last night - power play or not, giving up goals at 19:59 and then 19:53 of periods 1 and 2 (I think the 2P goal was scored like 8 seconds after the penalty was called) is totally unacceptable. This isn't about lack of skill, it is about hard work, effort and focus.

For once, they played within themselves.

The defense did enough to help Zach earn a shutout. Blocked shots, limited good chances, etc. Zach only had to stop a few great chances.

The offense got the one goal they needed, and even got a few decent others chances.

More important, ONE penalty. And a good PK for the one chance.

We have seen them beat BU and Wisconsin doing that.

Just need to keep doing more of it.

As you all said, this was really good to see. I'm going to resist the temptation to compare this to the rest of the year and instead just enjoy a bright spot for a few minutes. The part that was most encouraging to me was that there were far fewer unmarked men standing in prime scoring areas and what normally would've been spectacular saves or Buckeye goals instead were pucks that harmlessly found their way to the corner.

Good job by the team and this has to feel good for Red and the staff. Now it's on to a Minnesota team that's already in the NCAAs but has a conference title to play for. It would be nice to get one this weekend as a confidence builder for Detroit.
