What if Cassius Winston committed to Michigan instead of his dad playing games with Beilein? It is very likely that Simpson would have gotten an offer from Izzo and (my guess) taken it. Izzo had been following him all summer as a plan B. Would that switch be bad or good for Michigan? Winston will never be the defensive player that Z is, but he shoots over 50% on threes, and is a deft passer. In Beilein's offensive scheme, he'd be perfect. OTOH, how would Z fare at MSU? Z is better than Tum Tum, another small guard, but Izzo's offense of screens and designed sets, entry passes to Ward, would not run that well with Z, IMO. Z at Michigan gets to attack the paint; there would be fewer chances to do that in Izzo's offense.
Of course, I'm very happy to have Z and would not trade him for Winston.
