All of the concern/worry over Brandon Peters reminded me of the story I did with his coach....

...back when he committed. These "issues" aren't new and were definitely something I noticed when covering his recruitment and after I met him in person a couple of times. Here's an excerpt from that article.

Peters has been described as a pretty quiet kid and his coach says that is accurate. Peters has a way of commanding respect without being very vocal and his coach insists that it's been extremely effective. A lot of times quarterbacks are thought of as the leader of a recruiting class but Peters might not be that in the general sense. It could take some time for him to grab ahold and command his fellow future Wolverines in the 2016 class.

"I'm not so sure he didn't turn off some college coaches early in the process because he's just a reserved kid," Bless explained. "I don't want to use the word laid back because he's a fierce competitor on the field but he's a reserved young man.

"I don't know if being a recruiter is in his personality. He's not very talkative at first. Once he gets more comfortable with people he can really open up but he'll stay quiet until he feels comfortable. He's a guy that's ready to go when it's game time but if you see him off the field he's not going to stand out, he keeps to himself.

"I know when he became a starter as a sophomore it was difficult on him because he was in the huddle with seniors who were classmates with the guy who wasn't the quarterback anymore. He earned their respect though because of his ability and his determination to be a leader. As far as giving a "rah rah" speech to the team, I don't see that, but he does command respect in the huddle and leads by example very well."

Leading by example and working hard is something that Peters is going to have to take to another level if he wants to play at Michigan. That's not a knock on his ability, but Harbaugh is creating a culture of intense competition, especially at quarterback, and whoever wants to play is going to have to earn it. Bless said that Peters will have problem doing that.

"He works very hard everyday and he's very committed to getting better and does everything he can do to be prepared for each opponent and game," Bless said. "Mentally he's going to have to get used to a much bigger load and he'll work hard to be able to do that. I think he'll carry his own weight and get better."
