While attending a graduation party yesterday for a young man who will be playing for the University of Virginia, he and I interacted with his cousin who is a 5th grader in Alabama. Long story short, the player and I razed the 5th grader about him biting a blister off of his finger. We told him it would become infected and he'd lose his finger. Instead of being frightened as you'd suspect out of a 5th grader, this kid asked for a knife so he could just "cut it off and be done with it". The player and I eased up and told him to just wash his hands. The kid then said "nah", in his southern twang, and proceeded to bend his finger back until it popped, because he was attempting to break it off! Didn't cry...nothing. Before I'm judged, we seriously tried to convince the little-big dude to stop.
The kid goes on to tell us how he tries to punish his opponents and do all kinds of stuff to hurt them before they hurt him. Mind you this kid is in the FIFTH grade!
All that to say, I absolutely understand why J'Marick Woods hits the way he does. Why Keith Washington is so damn competitive. Why I wouldnt be the least bit surprised if Nico Collins cracks the lineup early. Those kids are just mentally built diffirent.
P.S. of course a 5th grader doesn't necessarily have the knowledge to understand his finger is in no danger and that would be an unwise decision to rid your hand of it. However, this kid was like Ronnie Lott for no reason hahahhahaha. Basically don't attribute this to Alabama's educational system.
