My personal view on this is the following. JH wanted to build a NJ pipeline because there is a LOT of very good talent there - Peppers, Gary, Singleton. To do so, he was probably ok taking a few players knowing well that some may not make it. JH is smart, recruit a few players who eventually will likely get weeded out because they can influence you getting some top flight talent. Think about the fact that 3 kids from NJ - Mitchell, Hawkins, and Walker - may all likely not end up being with Michigan long term. 1 parties too much and the other 2 have academic issues. However, getting those 3 significantly improved our chances to get Gary. Quite frankly, I would take a player like Gary all day long if it means recruiting some folks around him to make him comfortable. My 2 cents
