Harbaugh has lost this locker room and needs to step aside to allow Michigan to shop for a new coach. Its that simple! He cannot fix this thing at this point even with a complete staff overhaul. I am not sold on Matt Campbell. I think Bob Stoops deserves a phone call, but really I am on the Luke Fickell train. I don't care about his upbringing and connections. I honestly think that is a huge positive. Fickell understands Michigan football and he has 2 damn good mentors in Tressell and Meyer. People seem to think he would turn his nose up at an offer to coach Michigan football, but I don't believe so. I believe he is the best pick for the job.
Realistically, however, Harbaugh is under contract for 1 more season, and if he and Warde don't decide to divorce, where does that leave Michigan? Gattis and Harbaugh are not enjoying a happy relationship, and Harbaugh should make a change there. Perhaps promote Ed Warriner? The only two offensive staffers that deserve to stay are Ed and Sherone Moore. I agree with Skene in that if Jim cans his son it will signal that he is full prepared to do what is necessary.
On to the defense now. Don Brown has run his course in Ann Arbor and honestly Michigan has 2 names they should pursue immediately with enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Charlie Strong is currently a defensive analyst at Bama. He would be my first call as he knows defense and he would be a huge positive for recruiting! You then allow him to pick his assistants. I like Zordich and he would be the only position coach on defense that has earned a chance to stay. If Charlie does not want the job, then hire Muschamp. Outside of the DC job, the DL Coach will be the most important hire. Shaun Nua has been a disappointment. The DL are poorly coached and are incapable of generating any pressure. They need a home run hire at that spot badly.
