Are we where you thought we would be? Coach says biggest improvement is from week 1 to week 2, and we played a Florida team with no offense and a Cinci team that played above their average.
QB- we already covered this tons, and critical comments of Speight and your a hater I know, but he is the leader on offense and not getting better. We will only go as far as he can take the team though.
RB- Ty is having a great start to the year, Evans no so much. Going forward running back by committee will help keep them fresh, possibly the strength of the offense.
WR/TE- Young and learning under fire. Future potential is off the charts, but learning under fire mistakes will be made. We leaned more on the older players at the end of today's game, Perry especially. Glad he was there to help pick it up. Wheatly with some nice blocking and a solid catch. TE's just need to help block more on the right side, which is our weakness.
OL - some good some bad, but new guys are getting better. Run game seems to be the strength especially left side. Too many wiffs on the right side in the passing game. To my untrained eye, the line is getting better.
DL - I'm glad Mone played today, fairly solid too. Pressure and run stuffing, getting back to a Michigan defense I have missed seeing.
LB- unlike the past few years, the linebacker crew is solid and I have yet to see them miss an assignment. Quick and fly to the ball. Front 7 is nasty and maturing quickly.
DB's- Young and learning, we got lucky Cincinnati WR' s had butter fingers on a few throws, guys were there but playing the WR not the ball, could have cost us. If they keep growing to help make complete defense, just wow.
Special teams- hmmm..... I think DIP will be good in time, but letting the ball bounce around reminded me of Norfleet, and not in a good way. Nordin will be a reliable weapon for 3 more years. The place kicker is a walk on, and has a great leg. Punter needs work, not sure why he shanked 2 today. Coverage team looks very fast and solid.
The defense should keep us in every game we play this year, special teams are above average. If teams just stack the box and make Speight beat us, which I assume they will, won't be as great of a year we were hoping for. With the schedule Michigan has, I can see 9 wins as the mean, 8 wins the floor 10 the ceiling. Even with O$U losing tonight, they do still have the talent to beat us, and Wisconsin/Iowa are no gimmes.
