Northwestern dominated the first twenty minutes and outscored us 17-0. Extrapolated, they win a full game 51-0.

We won the last forty minutes 20-0 and held them to virtually negligible total yardage. Extrapolated, we win 30-0, and it should have been worse .....there was a crazy disparity in penalties, including two botched calls that wiped out two huge plays - Shea's keeper and DPJ's punt return.

Notre Dame was the same story. They dominated the first eight minutes 14-0 and we won the last 52 minutes by 17-10.

Don Brown's defenses often seem to allow a first drive TD, but these games featured multiple early TDs. The UM defense dominated long stretches of both games, but not before creating a hole. What's the story? I honestly can't remember ever seeing these types of early defensive problems followed by utter domination (and both the NW and ND offenses were utterly dominated for most of those games).
