A new NCAA tournment "pool" format to consider

For a number of years I would help my boss compete against his frat brothers (UofM in 80's I believe) in a unique NCAA pool. In the last couple of years I've adopted the format with my friends. Everyone seems to enjoy it. More strategic and complicated than filling out a bracket.

You need 8 players, and you have a "draft" - in person, on the phone, etc. Each player gets 10 picks (ends up being 80 total). With a single pick you can take 25% of a 1/2 seed, 50% of a 3/4 seed, 100% of a 5-8 seed, or 2 for 1 (100% each) of a 9-16 seed. A win in each round is worth 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 24 points, but you only get the fraction of those points that you own. So if a 1 seed you only get 25% of those values. you can own multiple shares of the same team, if available. So, in theory, you could try to draft all 4 shares of UK.

You can figure out the draft order, snake draft v alternative, the buy in and the payouts. The format is a lot of fun though and makes you look ahead to upsets where you can own more of a team.

Just thought I'd share in case any of you are looking to try something different with your friends. Might be too late to pull it together for this season, although I sent an email out last night and got 8 guys... We're drafting tomorrow.
