First, he has the ability to run. So if he goes through progressions and doesn't see anything (looking for guys who are too wide open), he can always tuck and run. A five-yard QB scramble is a good play this year.
Second, he's big enough to see over people and not be worried about being destroyed like Shea or Peters would.
Third, he has a good stable of RBs, so there shouldn't be many games where he has to throw 30 times. Pound and ground is the name of the game, especially early.
Finally, he does have an ace in the hole--the cannon attached to his right shoulder. We haven't seen an arm like this at UM since Mallett. The ability to fire a ball 60 yds downfield on a flick will do wonders to keep safeties in check.
