I was 20 rows up at the 45 yard line behind the UM bench yesterday.

1. Took forever to get into our seats because the game started a little later than expected, and because of the heat, fans were bailing for shade and exiting the north sections. Ross Ade ran out of all water and cold drinks IN THE FiRST QUARTER. Scrubs were literally making Kroger runs.

It was so scorchingly hot in the sun that it was hard just to sit there. In the shade, it was very warm but "fine". I'd say the real feel was well over 90-95-100 in the sun and 10 degree less in the shade. Now, imagine that you didn't have AC in the locker room and your sideline was the sunny side. I cannot say this affected our first half, but at least ONE thing changed at the start of the second half and that's that the sun just finally went below the press box and the UM sideline was safe from the sun. Healthy and sober looking fans were dropping like flies.

2. I sat around a LOT of UM fans. One that I could not ignore was so verbally abusive to Speights every move was making it hard to enjoy the game early - as ugly as the offensive start was. But when Speight got knocked out one on my right and one on my left started loudly cheering. If I wasn't with two young boys a fight might have broke out. I was embarrassed for them. We - the Royal we - need to be better.

3. Anybody else notice that one most - not the first play of the game - of Purdues big chunk plays that Gary was getting a breather, then immediately got put back in? I'll have to rewatch the tape on this, but Brohm is no dummy. The fan who said Gary was invisible yesterday on the other hand...
