1. The obvious is how great they are defensively, but the understated part of their defense which makes them great is how well they communicate. It is amazing to watch the amount of talking they are doing when they switch screens. It happens so fast and is seamless, and yet the switching of screens doesn't happen every time - only when communicated.
2. As much as I try to be a supportive fan when guys decide to go pro early, as a diehard fan, thank the man upstairs Charles Matthews came back. This team would still have the potential to be good without him returning, but with him (barring injury) has a chance to win the whole thing.
3. John Teske might be the most important person for the UM defense. He is such an issue for teams around the rim to score around.
4.For as badly as UM beat unc last night, it could have/should have been by a lot more. UM missed a ton of shots around the rim, and missed way too many free throws.
5. Maybe I am reading into things, but over the last two years, I never thought Roy Williams had any legitimate respect for Beilein and UM hoops. Don't get me wrong, I think Roy likes Beilein, but I don't think he really ever thought UM's teams could compete with his crew (this isn't based on anything he specifically said, just the vibe I got). I can't help but think that played a big part in his frustration during his press conferences. It reminds me a bit of how Coach K and Roy probably view Tony Bennett and Virginia - a nice coach and a solid program but not one they think is in their league (and yet keeps beating both of those programs).
6. For all the talk about Beilein's replacement being Yaklich, I hope JB sticks around as long as he possibly can. When he does leave though, sign me up for someone who can run that offense exactly the way he runs it. For all of the talk about UM's defense (which has been fantastic), when JB's offense is clicking, it is not only a thing of beauty, but almost impossible to defend. Having watched a lot of college bball, there are a fair number of teams who play really good defense, but there aren't many teams who run exceptional offense. Give me a head coach who is an offensive guru, and tell him to find his Yaklich.
