No order. Just as they come to mind:
- Just Bowling Green, but Ohio State simply reloads. We win by 60 and they go out and win by 70. New ten year war?
- Wisconsin over LSU. Hot seat just got hotter for Les. Good to see Big Ten beat a top 5 SEC team. Good that we have Wisconsin at home. Helps our strength of schedule if fighting for playoff spot. Good to see several SEC teams lose or struggle this past w/e. Interesting in that the win over LSU was the first time Wisconsin had beaten a ranked opponent in the season-opener since 2981, when the Badgers knocked off top-ranked Michigan. Unfortunately a game I remember well as Michigan was coming off Bo's first Rose Bowl win to end the prior season.
- Was rooting for one SEC team, A&M, to beat UCLA for recruiting purposes. With USC also going down, down, down, it only helps Michigan in far west recruiting. Who will be this year's Long, Asiasi and Crawford? We need to be patient as Cal kids tend to wait longer to decide.
- Don't read too much into comparative scores, especially Michigan State-Furman. MSU has looked bad in the past early in the season but they are always ready to go come Michigan week.
- 18 true freshmen saw time against Hawaii, including two preferred walk-ons. they earned rtime based on merit but keep in mind that since there were two very small recruiting classes in 2014 and 2015 it was important to play many freshmen in order to sure a somewhat normal cycle of departing seniors three years down the road. This is critical i order to free up available scholarship spots for incoming freshmen. I highly doubt if 18 freshmen would have played had the 2015 class numbered 25.
- I wonder if Michael Dwumfour would have seen action if Bryan Mone had not been injured. He was a surprise contributor, even though I had heard good things about him in camp.
- I wonder if Joshua Uche would have seen time if Noah Furbush had not been injured. Note that he is listed in the player participation chart as having played before Devin Bush
- We know that Ben Braden was injured, but two surprise omissions on the player participation chart are back-up lineman David Dawson and Jon Runyan Jr.. They have already redshirted so I wonder why they did not see any time.
- With Furbush out depth at the LB spots is precariously thin with Wroblewski and Reuben Jones listed as top back-ups in terms of player participation. Interesting that Wangler only saw time on special teams.
- Also interesting that Keith Washington only saw time on special teams. Seems as though he has fallen behind Long, Hill and Brandon Watson in the CB rotation.
- Did not see Nate Johnson on the pp list. Wonder if they will redshirt him.
- Great to see kids like Michael Hirsch and Joe Hewlett have their moments.
- Zach Gentry was practicing with the WRs in pre-game but did not get into the game. Curious to see how he progresses.
- Sean McKeon should not be overlooked. Neither should Nick Eubanks, who they are smart to likely redshirt.
- Feeling very good about the offense for 2017. Experienced returning QB who will batle Peters, and game-breaker in Evans, a ton of young WRs and, most importantly, some serious talent on the OL. Kalis, Magnuson and Braden will be cycling out burt Bredseon and Onwenu will be major talent upgrades and future monsters. Also kids like Kugler, Ulizio and Bushell-Beatty are really progressing.
- Not worried at all about recruiting. Our on-the-field performance will take care of that. Enjoy the season and things will fall into place.
- Chris Evans. What a start. Of course on that last TD run I think that any of our backs could have taken it to the house, but on some other runs he showed a suddenness along with vision and instinctive running that we have not seen in a long time. Also good to have a true frosh like him take some of the spotlight off of Rashan Gary. Enjoy!
