We got 47 points from Matthews and Poole against GW, very little today, yet still won going away. Iggy had 5 against GW, scored early and often today. Teske, who was still a little tentative at point blank range in the first half, gained confidence as the game wore on and scored from everywhere, including a three and a mid range jumper. Loved the offensive rebound snatch and score. The one chink in the armor was defensive rebounding, especially early in the second half. We cleaned that up later and just shut them down.
Poole is not getting open in the flow of the offense. A lot of one on one and shots off jab steps. Needs to let the game come to him a bit more. Charles had a tough match-up with Diallo, and the refs. The broadcast didn't show replays, but two of his fouls looked like standard boxing out. Reffing in general was interesting. Poole called for block when he was clearly outside the arc. Iggy called for a charge against a defender who was inside the arc. Beilein ticked, but those were B1G refs.
Eli made a couple of big threes. In the first half when Prov had cut the lead to 2. In the second half after Providence went zone and was still only 10 points or so back. Livers also hit a couple of much needed threes in the first half when we were struggling to score. His on ball defense is off the charts.
Z. Is there a better PG running a team and defending his opposite number? His points come off well timed drives and the occasional three, but scoring from Z is gravy. IMO, he's the one guy we would most miss if he's not on the court.
My parting thought is that I'm in awe of our defense. This team is connected. GW is a bad team, but holding Villanova and Providence in the 40s on the road is impressive. The D is generating some easy transition offense. As the half court offense improves - and there are signs of that, we will be a top 10 team all season.
