Not much in the way of strong takes from this one. It was basically taking care of business.
The defense was a little less aggressive than it has been, and the Mocs hit some threes. Their center made a couple of threes off the pick and pop, something we do but hasn't been done to us much. We do a nice job cutting off drivers and rotating. Not many clean layups against this group. Teske and Iggy controlled the defensive boards. As Crispin noted, everyone but Teske can start the break.
Right now, Livers is out best jump shooter. Today he hit a couple from mid-range, shots he can get any time he wants with his athleticism and size. It's always nice to see Iggy make a shot or two from three point range to complement his driving. It will be interesting to see if Iggy can get to the hole and finish against UNC's bigger, more athletic players. Poole was pretty disciplined today and knocked down open shots. Eli gave us good minutes off the bench. Any time he knocks down a three, it seems to jump start the offense. Matthews didn't light it up, but we didn't need it. And he always bears down defensively.
Teske used his size well on the boards. Keep working on the lobs to him. He's showing pretty good agility finishing those. Davis only saw spot minutes. His post up bucket, nice footwork, was the highlight.
Simpson was just solid today. His on ball defense is always good, and today was no exception. It's comforting to have a PG who you can count on every game. Even when he doesn't put up a lot of numbers, you know that he does the little things and settles the team down.
I missed the late stages of the game when the bench got some run.
Cruise control today, which is good with a couple of big games coming up. You can't be up for every game.
